You can spend half of that and purchase multiple Spanish courses that will improve your Spanish way more than Rosetta Stone ever will. However, in my opinion, the price is absolutely ridiculous, you aren't going to get your money's worth. The one thing I've never heard? A person who used Rosetta Stone as their primary learning tool that speaks decent, much less good Spanish. I've heard everything from great to it's a total waste of money. I'm going to be honest, personally, I've never seen Rosetta Stone, and the opinions I hear are varied. It provides an awesome method of skill maintenance that you are in control of - you can choose what you need to review, rather than relying on RS to do it for you. Creating flash cards as you go can, at times, be tiring and laborious, but six months or a year later, you will thank yourself for having done this. I use the Quizlet website for doing this. Then, six months later, I can return to the flash cards for a quick review and refresher. While I've been using the Berlitz program, I have found it useful to keep track of my learning by creating a flash card "trail" of all the stuff I have learned. I bought my RS at Barnes and Noble for about $340. During the Christmas season, they usually have a sale on the product, where you can save about $150. If one decides to purchase RS, look around for sales. This attempts to make the learning you have accomplished permanent, which is all-important.

It also uses the Pimsleur method of reviewing concepts learned at a certain frequency. RS provides one the opportunity to meet and interact with native Spanish speakers who are learning English. Right now, I am taking a break from Rosetta Stone, and reviewing my Berlitz Intermediate Spanish program that I bought at Barnes and Noble on a whim one day. Personally, I think the Berlitz audio cds and accompanying educational texts are excellent too. It is best to use a variety of learning methods. I really don't know if it would be a good method to use alone. When I purchased RS, I had already taken the first two years of college Spanish. It is not the only approach or method one should use to learn Spanish. Rosetta Stone is a good program for learning Spanish. And they almost always comment on how good my accent is. When I converse with a Spanish-speaker they are always very surprised that I start speaking Spanish to them (I guess I look pretty Gringo). meaning it will only accept what I say if it really sounds like the native-speaker in the course. I turned the "accept" level when I say something to the highest level. Price some local classes and then figure in the gas and calculate out what it would cost for a few courses. if you keep your eyes open, you can find it right from Rosetta Stone's website for around $320 for all 5 levels. but it's amazing how you pick stuff up without knowing what you are learning! By this, I mean that they don't explain grammar or structure. Rosetta Stone (admittedly) doesn't teach you anything. You can go back and do the Sessions over and over and over again as many times as you wish. 50 minutes of 100% Spanish (or whatever language you are learning). In these sessions you talk to a Coach and up to 3 other learners and discuss the Unit that you just learned. There are typing games, and speaking games available for both listed above.Īlso, after every Unit, you sign up for Sessions. and that are learning your native-language. You can also play games with people that are fluent in the language you are learning. You can play games with people that are fluent in your native-language that are learning the same language that you are learning. The course is the same, but with TOTALe, you can now go online and play games with other learners at the same level as you.

I had Version 3 and was able to upgrade to Version 4 (TOTALe). This looks like a real Rosetta Stone question, so here is my response last year to a similar question:
